Our story

Built byfighters.Backed by dentists.

How a broken tooth in a jiu-jitsu gym became the most shock-absorbent mouthguard on the market.

The founder

A kick in the teeth.

Damage Control CEO and Founder Delano Romero was sparring in Brazilian jiu-jitsu when his mouth took a hit and he fractured his two front teeth. His over-the-counter mouthguard was sitting in a drawer — too thick, too bulky, too uncomfortable to wear.

He figured if athletes had better fitting mouthguards, they'd actually wear them. So he set out to build one.

The science

Dentist-designed. Lab-tested.

Romero teamed up with Dr. Vesna Delic, D.D.S. of Albuquerque's Delicate Dentistry to design the first Damage Control mouthguard. To nail down the material, they brought in Organic Chemists from Sandia National Laboratories to research the best shock-absorbing compound and the ideal thickness for every sport — research that still shapes our product line today.

The result

150% more shock absorbent.

Damage Control mouthguards are 150% more shock absorbent than the standard material used by virtually every other mouthguard company. We make every guard at the proper thickness for its sport — thick enough for maximum protection, thin enough for maximum breathability and comfort.

Every product in our lineup is guided by years of dental experience, scientific research, and a conviction to make the most comfortable, most protective, best fitting mouthguard on the market.
